Aon launches new cyber diagnostic tool at FERMA
High profile attacks raising cyber as an emerging risk

MAASTRICHT (30 September 2013) – Aon Risk Solutions, the global risk management business of Aon plc (NYSE: AON) has launched a new cyber diagnostic tool for clients to identify their cyber risk.  Introduced at the Federation of Risk Management Associations (FERMA) Forum, the tool has been created in response to Aon data which highlights that cyber is not yet recognised as seriously in the EU as it is in the US and is expected to be rolled out across the globe over the coming months.

The cyber diagnostic tool aims to help risk managers better identify and understand their exposure to cyber risk, using a series of multiple choice questions to assess how employees use technology, the current controls in place and management’s attitude to cyber risk.  The tool then provides meaningful insight into the most important cyber risk topics and includes practical guidance on related governance frameworks that should be in place as part of an effective cyber risk management strategy.

Kevin Kalinich, Group Practice Leader – Cyber at Aon said “The recent high profile attacks on Banco Santander in the UK and Vodafone in Germany are demonstrating how cyber crime is an increasing business risk and should be taken seriously by the Board.  Businesses in all industries are increasingly reliant on technology and information assets, which raises the risk that cyber can impact an organization’s  financial statements. Prudent Risk Managers ask how they can increase their ability to classify and prioritize cyber exposures.  The Aon Cyber Diagnostic Tool assists Risk Managers to articulate the “business impact” of cyber risks to senior management.

“We recognise that many Risk Managers are increasingly concerned by cyber risk as evidenced in recent surveys including the World Economic Forum Global Risks 2013.  Yet in Aon’s Global Risk Management Survey over 1000 risk managers underrated cyber compared to its likelihood.  It is essential that risk managers are given every support to fully understand the depth of cyber exposure.   At Aon, we aim to help companies collaborate across their different departments (CIO, CISO, IT Security, Legal, HR, Finance, etc) to coordinate  understanding their exposure to cyber risk.  The launch of our Cyber Diagnostic Tool will help them develop a road map to achieve such Enterprise Risk Management with respect to cyber.”
