Aon recognised for Takaful offerings
London
NYSE: AOC

LONDON, 13 August 2008 – Aon has been recognised for its reinsurance and consultancy advisory work in the Takaful and Retakaful sectors.

At the 2nd International Takaful Summit in London recently, Aon was named Best Takaful Reinsurance Intermediary.

Aon Global Risk Consulting (AGRC) assists companies in the Takaful sector in the development of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks. AGRC’s ERM offering allows the alignment of capital management and governance to strategic decision making in order to maximize stakeholder returns. The formalisation of this process has assumed increased importance as the sector continues its rapid development.

Aon Re Global launched “Aon Re Global Takaful Solutions” on the occasion of the above summit. The newly established team is currently divided into the regions of:

  • Europe – Nav Garayal (senior consultant, Aon Global Risk Consulting, London);
  • Middle East – David Keen (vice president, Aon Re Middle East); and
  • Asia Pacific – Alexander Milberg (head of Aon Re Malaysia and head of Retakaful for Aon Re Global Asia).

The team was developed in response to business demands. Malaysia in particular has positioned itself as a major centre for Islamic Finance and Aon Malaysia is already a licensed Takaful/Retakaful broker in Kuala Lumpur with well established business partnerships in the market.

Aon gave presentations on both topics at the International Takaful Summit:

  • Nav Garayal gave a presentation on ERM within the Takaful/Retakaful arena
  • Alexander Milberg gave a presentation on the benefits of pooling arrangements for Retakaful.

Alastair Speare-Cole, chief operating officer for Aon Re Global (UK), commented: ”We have seen exciting development recently in Takaful and Retakaful business. The sector is witnessing rapid growth, which in turn promises to present both significant opportunities and significant challenges. These include access to capital, harmonisation of standards, development and recruitment of suitable resources, and access to Takaful/Retakaful capacity. Aon – as a reinsurance broker, strategic advisor and risk management consultancy – has supported this important industry and will continue to show commitment to it as it enters this new and exciting phase”.
