Aon Risk Solutions, the global risk management business of Aon plc (NYSE: AON), congratulates its client, Bill Zachry, vice president of Risk Management at Safeway Inc., who was honored as Business Insurance’s 2014 Risk Manager of the Year. Zachry received the award today at an early morning breakfast held in conjunction with the annual RIMS conference in Denver.

While working with Aon, year-over-year Zachry and his team have substantially driven-down Safeway’s risk-spend. In addition, Zachry was one of the lead authors of California Senate Bill SB899 which forever changed California’s workers’ compensation system and has saved employers billions in workers’ compensation premiums. It is these quantifiable accomplishments, as well as Zachry’s keen strategic insights, which have enabled Safeway’s Risk Management team to reduce bottom-line costs and continue to provide meaningful shareholder value.

Lennox added, “Bill’s efforts have resulted in Safeway Risk Management department delivering the C-suite a sustainable, efficient and stable risk financing platform while at the same time, providing superior balance sheet protection.”

Business Insurance’s Risk Manager of the Year Award was created to increase the recognition of outstanding performance in the practice of risk management. Award candidates are nominated by others within his or her network including superiors, the risk management staff or internal colleagues.
