Aon revamps public sector risks team
Phil Tompsett to head team
Manchester
NYSE: AOC

MANCHESTER, 15 July 2008 - Aon, the UK's leading insurance broker and risk adviser, is revamping its public sector risks team under new national head, Phil Tompsett. The goal is to bring further flair and commitment to public sector risk management to help reduce potentially crippling claims from rising litigation.

Aon's strong presence in the public sector includes a 42% share of Local Authorities and 24% of upper quartile registered social landlords. Its growth is demonstrated by already winning 30 new clients over the last two months.

Phil's goal is to further support risk managers in the public sector by bringing in talent and broader expertise from across Aon, such as in fine art for museums and marine knowledge for local authority ports. Part of Aon's European public sector team, Phil will also be bringing experience of how issues such as environment have been handled in the EU to support UK risk managers confronting the same risks.

Phil, national head of Aon's public sector team, has worked at the firm since 1996 and was previously head of client management for Aon in the North West. To keep pace with Aon's continued growth in the sector, the following new recruits have joined four of Aon's public sector centres of excellence:

  • Tim Devine - Leicester
  • Stephen Couch - Chelmsford
  • Graham Munro - Glasgow
  • Karen Adegoke - Manchester

Phil commented:  "The new Corporate Manslaughter Act, ever-present flood threats and data loss issues mean that managing risk is more important than ever for the public sector. Unfortunately, risk managers can be hampered by restrictive European legislation and fixed criteria from the procurement team, which can potentially reduce the flair seen in the commercial world in terms of managing risk. By working with public sector risk managers, we want to bring the flexibility to work within the framework while creating innovative ways to prevent claims and achieve competitive premiums."

Aon's public sector offering also includes: captive and mutual solutions, tenants contents scheme, environmental solutions, key worker home insurance, absence management, counter terrorism, crisis management and risk surveys on claims defensibility.
