Aon Celebrates Global Service Day in Asia

Singapore, June 6, 2013 – Celebrating its commitment to empowering economic and human possibility around the world, Aon plc (NYSE:AON), the leading global provider of risk management and human resource consulting and outsourcing, today is holding its Global Service Day, where colleagues in 44 countries will volunteer their time and efforts to support local charities in their communities.

As part of the firm’s global mission, Aon’s company-wide service day provides colleagues with the opportunity to take time off from their work to engage in charitable activities that focus on providing assistance to organizations that empower people and serve communities at risk.

“Today, we come together as a firm to give back to the local communities that Aon calls home in order to empower those who need it most,” said Greg Case, Aon plc President and CEO. “Corporate citizenship means going the extra step and contributing to society beyond what you do in your everyday course of business. Aon’s Global Service Day is the embodiment of that philosophy.”

Aon has conducted similar company-wide service days in recent years. In 2007, a day of service was held to celebrate Aon's 20th anniversary as a global brand, in 2010, a day was held to commemorate the launch of the firm’s role as principal partner and global shirt sponsor of Manchester United, and in 2012, Aon celebrated its 25th anniversary with a service day.

This year, Aon colleagues in Asia will contribute to these and many other organisations during Global Service Day:

  • Mainland China - Colleagues will raise funds to support the Sichuan earthquakes’ victims and will contribute to UNICEF’s Ya’an Earthquake Project.  In addition, they will work with Cherished Dream, a charity that collects and donates books to elementary schools.
  • Hong Kong – Colleagues will partner with a numbers of charities over a 5-day programme, holding various community activities.  Those include sorting donated coins for UNICEF, storytelling to kindergarten kids and visiting the elderly.
  • Taiwan – Volunteers in Taipei will tidy up and repair a local orphanage.
  • India – Colleagues will work with a local program they established “Aon Cares” which they will give payroll donations to support 20 local charities.  Volunteers will also conduct various charity initiatives with children and patients in hospitals.
  • Indonesia - Colleagues will partner with the Indonesian Childhood Cancer Foundation to host a half day of activities for young people who are undergoing cancer treatments.
  • Japan - Colleagues in Tokyo will conduct some cleaning activities. They will also go to an elderly care facility and a child care center to assist the helpers and nursery teachers.
  • Korea and Vietnam - Colleagues will go to various communities and clean up refuse and debris at local parks and beaches.
  • Malaysia and Pakistan – Colleagues will conduct blood donation drives.
  • Philippines - Colleagues will partner with Fairplay For All, a foundation that supports youth football programs and will also donate money to help the Foundation launch an urban garden.
  • Singapore – Colleagues will bring elderly beneficiaries from three voluntary welfare organizations - Silver Ace, Lion Befrienders and Boon Lay Neighborhood Link - to the Gardens by the Bay for a day of recreation.
  • Thailand – Colleagues will support a school which was affected by the recent floods by painting the school building, making donations towards the nursing room and lunch tables, and presenting Aon footballs and sport shirts to the students.
