Aon international symposium focuses on cross-border risks and challenges

LONDON (08 October 2014) Aon plc (NYSE: AON) recently held a key event in London hosted by the Aon Global Client Network (AGCN), highlighting the importance of an holistic approach to converging and emerging risks across borders, geographies and suppliers.

Mike O’Connor, CEO Aon Risk Solutions, said “Today’s operating environment requires collaborations such as those that occur at this symposium to empower multinational organisations in the face of challenges and opportunities specific to cross-border business”.

The international symposium brought together delegates comprising senior leaders of clients’ global risk management teams, AGCN leads from 40 countries, eight global  insurer partner markets, accounting, tax and claims specialists.  With presentations, interactive breakouts and panel debates the two day event focused on the challenges facing professionals tasked with identifying, evaluating and managing complex risks for global companies.

Chris Baudouin, CEO, Aon Global Client Network, said “The ‘old school’ ways of developing and implementing global programmes no longer exist.  Ensuring that at the outset, discussions involving the tripartite of client, broker and insurer and setting deliverables and agreed protocols are important to successful cross-border risk management.  While the increasing reliance on technology can help, it is necessary to have clear and consistent communication when setting out policy terms. The Aon network is not “dots on the map” but a community of dedicated passionate experts, making us the “glue” that holds together the design and execution of international solutions for our multinational clients.

A panel of experienced global clients spoke not only about the geographical and cultural issues which can impact the company’s finances, but also on their increased roles and responsibilities of today’s risk manager, a role more in line with a Chief Risk Officer. Keynote speakers included investigative journalist and professor of criminology Donal MacIntyre on measuring and preparing for risk and the power of persuasive communication, and Bryan Robson OBE, one of England and Manchester United’s most decorated players with his views on the impact of strong leadership.

Andrew Tunnicliffe, COO, Aon EMEA, said, “As globalisation makes the world smaller, coupled with the increasing complexity of today’s risk, it is essential that leaders of global programmes understand the challenges facing them.  We are proud to be hosting this event in London and to be leading the debate on these critical business issues”.

Aon's Global Client Network works with clients to resolve complex business risks across many countries through our network of individuals experienced in ensuring our clients receive a comprehensive, coordinated, global risk identification and transfer value proposition that addresses local needs and concerns while aligning with their corporate risk finance strategies.
