CHICAGO, Oct. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As the frequency and severity of cyber risks continue to increase, Aon Risk Solutions, the global risk management business of Aon plc (NYSE:AON), continues to bolster its industry-leading team of experts to address complex client needs in today's dynamic business world. Today the firm announced the appointment of James C. Trainor as senior vice president in its Cyber Solutions Group. Trainor joins Aon after a distinguished career at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he most recently led the Cyber Division at FBI Headquarters.
Trainor leaves the FBI as its highest-ranking cyber expert. During his 20-year career with the FBI, he played a critical role in devising strategies to combat ransomware and additional emerging forms of cybercrime, spearheaded major high-profile investigations, and managed numerous incidents at the nexus of cybercrime and national security.
In his new role, Trainor will help shape Aon's overall cyber strategy on behalf of clients, working closely with colleagues across technology, system integration, risk transfer and advisory to ensure a holistic and integrated approach.
"As the FBI's foremost expert in cyber security, Jim brings unparalleled experience and knowledge that will be invaluable to clients as they evaluate and address their cyber exposures," said Mike O'Connor, chief executive officer, Aon Risk Solutions. "Jim's unique insights and relationships will help us continue our innovative and industry-leading approach to cyber risk management."
Trainor joined the FBI as a special agent in 1996. Over his FBI career, he served in both overseas and domestic assignments focused on cyber, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, intelligence and criminal matters. Trainor has served in field assignments in Chicago; New Haven, CT; Boston; New York and at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. In his last role, as Assistant Director of the Cyber Division in Washington, DC, he led a team that developed and implemented the FBI's national strategy to combat cybercrime.
"Aon's commitment to helping businesses navigate the changing tides of cyber risk is unmatched. I am honored and excited to be joining the best-in-class Aon team and look forward to contributing to Aon's differentiating value proposition for advising clients on how best to manage cyber risk," Trainor said.
A frequent speaker on cyber security issues at global conferences, Trainor has been quoted by media outlets ranging from CNN to The Wall Street Journal and received numerous commendations for his work in this field. He will be based in New York and serve Aon clients around the world.
