New solution turns liability exposure data into actionable insights, optimizing insurance program design
CHICAGO, Sept. 30, 2026 - Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today announced its proprietary Professional Liability Risk Analyzer, a new tool designed to help law firms better understand, quantify and manage risk.
The analyzer combines firm‑specific exposure data, historical loss experience and Aon’s proprietary modeling, built on Aon’s 30-year Lawyer’s Professional Liability claims database to simulate the probability and severity of potential losses across a wide range of scenarios. By translating professional liability risk into a clear, quantifiable financial exposure, the Professional Liability Risk Analyzer enables a more practical view of liquid volatility, enabling more resilient, risk-informed insurance program design.
“Too often, insurance decisions are made before firms understand the risk they’re trying to manage,” said Kristin Kraeger, CEO, Professional Services Practice, Aon. “The Professional Liability Risk Analyzer helps law firms quantify professional liability risk as a financial exposure, so they can evaluate how different insurance structures actually perform under stress.”
While currently designed for law firm professional liability, Aon is expanding the Professional Liability Risk Analyzer for other professional services sectors, including accounting and consulting firms, bringing the same data-driven approach to quantifying and managing professional liability risk across a broader range of organizations.
The proprietary model overlays different insurance program structures onto simulated losses tailored to each firm’s unique risk profile, showing how retentions, limits and coverage are likely to perform under pressure. This allows firms to stress-test program designs, pinpoint where limits are most likely to exhaust, understand how retained losses accumulate and assess whether current structures strike the right balance between cost, protection and value.
“Very few risk advisors have the depth of data and market presence required to model professional liability risk this way,” Kraeger added. “With this level of insight, firms can move beyond assumptions and see, with clarity, the tradeoff between cost and risk protection.”
Senior legal leaders are often responsible for managing insurance decisions alongside broader firm responsibilities. The Professional Liability Risk Analyzer presents complex risk information in a clear, intuitive way that supports meaningful conversations with partners and financial stakeholders and more informed decision-making to complement the efforts of their risk and finance teams.
The Professional Liability Risk Analyzer is underpinned by Aon’s long‑standing market presence and deep claims experience in the legal sector. It is part of Aon’s broader Risk Analyzer suite, which helps organizations move beyond static benchmarks toward analytics‑driven decision‑making.
