What’s new: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ (IFRC) Disaster Response Emergency Fund’s (DREF) hosted a Pledging Conference to discuss the importance of humanitarian, private and public sectors coming together to support the DREF.
- DREF has proved to be the simplest, fastest, most transparent and localized way for National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to access reliable international, short-term emergency funding for community action in all kinds of disasters when needs exceed the resources available at national level.
The big picture: Eric Andersen, president of Aon, addressed the audience at the Pledging Conference about Aon’s work with the IFRC, Centre for Disaster Protection and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the DREF.
- “We are committed to the sustainability of the insurance product for DREF and seeing it expand over the years to come. This is exactly the type of innovation and collaboration that is needed to move the needle on supporting the humanitarian agenda in a sustainable format,” said Andersen. “Big problems need to be solved by collaboration and this has been exactly that – humanitarian, private and public sectors partnering to prove that solutions can be found together. Each of us bring a different set of expertise, allowing us to leverage each other’s capabilities to maximize the impact for our communities.”
