Aon’s Apprenticeship Program Highlighted as Additional Career Pathway

What’s happening: The Wall Street Journal has featured Aon’s Apprenticeship Program as a potential career pathway, providing individuals with an earn-as-you-learn opportunity.

  • Dina Sosa Cruz, apprentice, opted to join Aon’s Apprenticeship Program instead of going to college full-time as the apprenticeship program offered a salary, benefits and tuition to help her complete her associate’s degree.

Zoom out: Aon’s U.S. program was founded in 2017 in Chicago. The program has been recognized as an Apprenticeship Ambassador by the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Office of Apprenticeship. As an ambassador, Aon shares best practices for creating apprenticeship programs and works with the DOL to shape registered apprenticeship program expansion while promoting, expanding and diversifying these programs.  

  • In late 2022, First Lady of the United States Jill Biden, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, then-U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona attended a National Apprenticeship Week event at the Aon Center in Chicago.
  • Harvard Business Review highlighted alternate ways for workers without a traditional four-year degree to access a well-paying and satisfying career through apprenticeship programs, featuring insights from Aon’s CEO Greg Case.
  • WGN-TV interviewed Aon Apprentice Chant’e Boyd about how the program gave her an opportunity to a new career path.
