James Platt, Aon’s Chief Operating Officer, was recently a keynote speaker at the Analytics Institute’s Analytics Summit 2021 in Dublin. The summit brought together global thought leaders to identify areas of opportunity for growth using technology as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a keynote speaker, Platt spoke about using digital strategies to drive better customer engagement and sustainable growth. He was joined at the Summit by technology executives from Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, EY and others. In addition, Aon’s Rory Moloney, chief operating officer and head of strategic client advisory for Aon’s Large Account Segment, and Tharishni Arumugam, Global Privacy Operations lead, participated in a panel discussion on data around future risks, and ethical implications of using raw data.
Platt also recently spoke to Ireland’s leading technology publication, Silicon Republic, about navigating new forms of volatility and how the insurance industry is using technology to address them. He said challenges arise because traditional methods of understanding risk, such as looking from a historical perspective, don’t work on emerging risks.
“So, what’s happening in the background is our teams are working to do two things. One is to collect the data that they need for those risks and then the second is to start modelling that in ways that insurers or capital providers will feel confident to put their money behind people’s risks,” Platt said. “These models are new. We’re using the latest modelling techniques. We’re building new ways of thinking about it.”
