How Aon is Supporting Underserved Communities with The Red Cross
September 06, 2023

340 words…a minute and a half read

One big thing: Aon, along with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and the Center for Disaster Protection (CDP), have developed the InsuResilience Solutions Fund (ISF), which supports the Disaster Response Emergency Fund’s (DREF) ability to respond to natural disasters. The fund offers an insurance backstop to provide financial support to the DREF for natural disasters, including floods, earthquakes, wildfires, droughts and hurricanes around the world.

  • Eric Andersen, president of Aon, said, “The impact of climate is giving rise to an increasing number of natural disasters that are disproportionally affecting underserved communities. At Aon, we are honored to play a role to help protect DREF from volatility and increase its capacity to effectively distribute funds to those in need through our innovative capabilities in matching capital to the risk and the innovation in our industry to address the humanitarian impact from climate-related disasters.”
  • This collaboration comes in response to rising humanitarian needs as a result of climate risk. This will expand the DREF's capacity to swiftly respond to a higher number of disaster events and extend aid to an even greater number of individuals. Read the press release.
  • Dig deeper: The City of London and The Global City in association with KPMG published a case study demonstrating how financial services firms are addressing the socio-economic consequences of climate and integrating the “S” in ESG, which was presented at the Net Zero Delivery Summit. One more thing: Mike Neller, global controller and chief accounting officer at Aon, recently joined The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago Board of Directors. In this role, he will provide expertise, guidance and vision for the future to support the organization.

  • The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago serves more than 12.4 million people in 88 counties across Illinois and provides vital services including disaster relief, health and safety classes, blood collection, and services to the Armed Forces.
