What’s happening: Business leaders and economists gathered this week for the World Economic Forum’s annual event in Davos, Switzerland to examine the current challenges impacting society, including:

  • Energy and food crises: Energy transition and climate change are inextricably linked, with their impact being felt over the past months. Aon helps clients navigate the increasing volatility related to climate change, unlock growth opportunities and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. Check out highlights of the firm’s recent initiatives and insights here.
  • High inflation and economic growth: Policymakers are now operating with limited fiscal space, while inflationary pressure is forcing a tightening of monetary policy. Experts at Aon have commented on the impacts of inflation, including higher losses from natural catastrophes globally, increased food security risks, rising health care costs and more. Aon’s podcast, “On Aon”, recently released a three-episode series discussing challenging economic times. Listen to episodes 39, 40 and 41.
  • Industry headwinds: Industries are reassessing their investment, production and innovation decisions in light of increasing volatility. A recent Aon survey of 800 C-suite leaders and senior executives asked how business leaders make better decisions during volatile times. Explore the findings here and read more about Aon’s insights in CFO.com and Reinsurance News.
  • Social impact: Workers are continuing to leave – or considering leaving – their jobs and emerging markets are facing pressure of significant unemployment driven by economic slowdown, leading to heightened social pressures. Check out insights from Aon on maintaining employee wellbeing amidst the “Great Resignation” here. • Geopolitical risks: The conflict in Ukraine and other geopolitical events/developments brought new volatility in 2022, especially in supply chain disruption, leading to transportation challenges and material shortages.
