LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. — Hewitt Associates, a global human resources consulting and outsourcing services company, announced today that its market-leading Total Benefit Administration™ (TBA)1 platform handled health care enrollment for nearly six million participants—across 153 companies, representing 21 industries—during the 2009 annual enrollment season. Between the months of October 2009 and December 2009, 2.6 million employees actively chose their heath care benefits regardless if they changed coverage—the highest number since Hewitt began tracking enrollments in 2003, and up from 2.3 million in 2008.

Using the TBA backbone, Hewitt's Your Benefits Resources™ (YBR)2 portal handled an average of 4.4 million Internet page requests a day during the most recent annual enrollment season, with a single day peak of 9.6 million. In addition, Hewitt's call center managed more than 54,000 calls a day, peaking at nearly 140,000 participant calls in a single day.

"Our TBA platform is unsurpassed in its ability to handle this kind of volume, with consistent, accurate results for our plan sponsors and participants," says Kristi Savacool, senior vice president of large market benefits outsourcing at Hewitt Associates. "The robust platform provides the expert, scalable and secure experience that today's largest companies expect, combined with the flexibility and adaptability required to successfully deliver benefit programs in a fast-paced and constantly changing business environment."

Online Enrollment Reaches Record High
The 2009 enrollment season highlighted the increasing importance of robust online tools and support to assist employees in optimizing their benefits selection. Among those participants who actively signed up for their benefits, the vast majority (88 percent) did so online via YBR, up 12 percent from 2008. An overwhelming majority (90 percent) of those participants who enrolled online said YBR was "easy to navigate" and that they were "able to accomplish everything that they wanted to with their health benefits online."3 In addition, use of Hewitt's online decision-support tools, including health plan comparisons, cost estimators, and customized portal and guidance solutions, increased dramatically—by as much as 18 percentage points over 2008.

"Our goal is to help employees make confident and sound benefits decisions," explains Karen Frost, Hewitt's health and welfare outsourcing strategy leader. "Our YBR portal is designed to be a one-stop shop for enrollees, helping them understand their options so they can be smart consumers of health care. We take pride in the fact that our clients' employees are happy with our solution and the ease and speed with which they can use it to make those crucial health care decisions."
