16 March 2009 Walsall Housing Group (whg) will continue to provide tenants’ home contents insurance until 2012 through its long-standing relationship of 11 years with Aon, the UK’s leading insurance broker, and insurer Norwich Union. The new enhanced scheme is available to new and existing whg and watmos community homes customers.
As part of the new scheme, which already has 2000 policyholders, premiums will be fixed for the next three years and there is no excess to pay on claims. Tenants can also choose their own payment schedule to adapt to their personal finances.
Enhanced cover for the scheme includes increased limits for credit cards, damage to tenants and leaseholder's home improvements and lost and stolen keys.
Martin Robertson, group finance director, commented: "We are pleased to work with Aon on this scheme. Our customers helped choose it and will benefit from its protection in these difficult times."
Mark Shipsey, director at Aon, added: “Sufficient home contents insurance is crucial as theft tends to increase during a recession – there was a 4% rise to 69,000 burglaries in Q3 2008 compared to the previous year. In response, the new insurance scheme provides value for money by offering higher limits for competitive rates.”
Tenants can obtain more information or an application pack by calling 0300 555 6666 or picking up a pack from the nearest local housing office.
