Sustainable Aviation Fuel Accelerates Efforts to Decarbonize Air Travel
December 08, 2023

One big thing: Virgin Atlantic operated the first transatlantic flight using 100 percent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This exciting development shows that SAF is a viable alternative to fossil-derived jet fuel and will help decarbonize air travel.

  • Zoom out: Aon joined American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) and Shell Aviation’s SAF pilot program as a first adopter. The program uses Amex GBT’s global client base to aggregate global demand for SAF. Shell Aviation will supply SAF into the aviation fuel network. Read more about the program and Aon’s involvement here.
    • Recently, Aon’s SAF was injected into planes at the Los Angeles International Airport. The SAF, which was made from animal fat/beef tallow, provided a 75 percent emissions reduction compared to traditional jet fuel. This is equivalent to saving fuel from 713 flights from London to New York.
  • Aon’s 2022 Environmental, Social and Governance Impact Report highlights how we operate our firm and the market-leading solutions we deliver to meet our clients’ growing needs.
